Motorola was third largest smartphone OEM in the US for 2021

Motorola was third largest smartphone OEM in the US for 2021. LG has officially ended its mobile division in April, which created a significant gap on the US smartphone market. Based on the most recent Counterpoint Research report, Motorola made up for that gap by becoming the third largest OEM of smartphones across the country.

The sell-through rate for Motorola smartphones increased by 131% by 2021 resulting in a 10 percent market share, which is the highest ever recorded by Moto and is behind Samsung’s market share of 22% and Apple with 58% market share.

Motorola has also moved up to number two in the $400-$400 price range across the US. Motorola’s portfolio of devices priced under $300 is also a key factor behind its growth over the past year, with Moto G Stylus, Moto G Stylus Moto G Power and Moto G Pure performing especially well. Promotions and deals with carriers are also significant elements in Motorola’s growth.

Counterpoint observes that Motorola’s momentum in 2021 carries over to Q1 2022 and is accompanied by strong sales numbers. In the future, Counterpoint analysts anticipate the company to push sales-through rates for the more expensive price points in an effort to compete with Samsung as well as Apple in the top segment.
