Oppo expected to launch SoC earlier in 2024

Oppo expected to launch SoC earlier in 2024. With the introduction of proprietary CPUs, smartphone manufacturers have more sway over the internal workings of their handsets. Despite having its neural processing unit (NPU) MariSilicon X and connection chip (MariSilicon Y), Oppo still needs a precise SoC.

An official from MediaTek recently said at a foreign investment meeting in Hsinchu, Taiwan, that to maintain its competitive advantage, Oppo desires an actual chipset. According to the source, the chip from the Guangdong manufacturer has already been taped out and will be available in 2024.

In electronics design, “taping out” indicates that the last stages of the integrated circuit design process have been finished, and the device may be submitted to manufacture. We may or may not see TSMC as a partner with Oppo, and the fact that the conference is being held in Hsinchu, northwest of Taiwan, is no accident. Earlier information said Oppo spent over CNY 10 billion (about $1.4 billion) on establishing IC design labs in Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai.
